Funerals and Interment of Ashes
The passing of a loved one can be a difficult time. If you feel that you would like to speak to someone please contact the bereavement team. We would be pleased to help you. We remember in our prayers each Sunday the families of those whose funerals have taken place here.
St Mary's is one of the larger Anglican Churches in the area and accommodates 300 people. We can host large funerals and there are facilities to play recorded music from a CD or MP3 player.
Please note that the church yard has been closed for burials since the start of the last century. There is a garden of remembrance, which is available for the interment of ashes. Each plot can be prepared to accommodate two interments. If this is required we must know on the occasion that the first interment takes place.
We hold an annual service of remembering in November when we remember particularly all those who have died in the preceding year. Many find this service helpful and details will appear in the autumn on our news pages.
Some more information in a time of bereavement is available here.
You may find the Light a Candle website helpful.
There are church regulations regarding the Interment of Ashes regulations (including the size of plots and floral decoration). The file also shows the appropriate fees. Click here for details.
If you would like to leave a bequest for the work of the church here in Selly Oak, all donations would be most gratefully received.
